OUR VISION

The F.A.I.T.H. Riders, Inc. is a non-profit recreational therapeutic equestrian program for children and adults with all types of disabilities. Our vision is to provide our challenged riders an opportunity to grow and develop through the therapy with horses.
They will engage in enjoyable community-based recreational activities with both disabled and non-disabled peers and increase the quality of their lives.
We believe every disabled person should have the opportunity to participate in this therapeutic program.
Our program is free to all children and adults with disabilities.

OUR FACILITY

At the present time, our program services fifty riders with varied disabilities ranging from Multiple Sclerosis, developmental delays, Traumatic Brain Injury, Epilepsy and Cerebral Palsy to Autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
Located at the Lake Woodruff National Wildlife refuge in DeLand, Florida, the property has full barn facilities and a riding ring.
The program offers a wide range of activities including an obstacle course, a dressage ring and a round ring.
There are also acres of wooded riding trails which offers our staff, riders and horses a change of pace from the usual arena setting.
For our non-ambulatory riders, we have a wheelchair ramp for mounting and dismounting.

OUR COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Over the past seven years, our riders have participated in several local holiday parades and competed in numerous county, area and state level Special Olympics. Competition also includes a Fun Show held at our facility and an annual Challenge Show event, which is sponsored by NARHA (North American Riding for the Handicapped Association) and hosted by different riding facilities throughout the state. The F.A.I.T.H. Riders has hosted this event at Spring Garden Ranch in DeLeon Springs.

WHAT ARE EXCEPTIONAL EQUESTRIAN PROGRAMS?

Therapeutic riding has proven to have a profound effect upon individuals with a variety of disabilities, including developmental delays as well as physical, emotional and psychological impairments.

Riding exercises the spirit as well as the body! Not only do riders sit taller and smile more, they are able to move beyond the confines of their disabilities into new, unexplored worlds. To see children and adults with disabilities riding horses is truly an unforgettable experience!

PHYSICAL BENEFITS

The rider often experiences increased attention span, concentration, cognitive thinking and language skills.
Therapeutic riding also increases respiration and circulation and muscular functions of the body and even increases the efficiency of digestion. In addition, riders can increase their range of motion in their joints.
The slow, continuous, rhythmic motion of the gait of the horse is therapeutic and helps develop the muscles around the spine.

EMOTIONAL BENEFITS

Of course, horseback riding is an enjoyable activity that keeps riders interested and motivated for continued participation in the therapy program. They are cheered, applauded and looked up to, many for the first time in their lives. The joy this brings to the face of these riders could never be duplicated or replaced. They learn the joy of success in increased independence, self-confidence and self-esteem.
