Nancy Hooker and Corsair Take the Tricolor in the Adult Amateur 36-50 Hunters

Wellington, FL – March 13, 2011 –

The 2011 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival continued this morning to wrap up week nine of competition. The Adult Amateur 36-50 Hunters awarded their championship honor to Nancy Hooker and Corsair in the Rost Arena.

Richard Prant of Flemington, New Jersey, owns Corsair, a thirteen-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding by Calato. Hooker recently took over the ride on Corsair from her daughter, who found herself with too many junior hunter mounts, and so gave Corsair to her mother to ride. “I inherited him! He’s a hand-me-down, so it’s fun because I’ve taken care of him over the last few years while she showed him, and now I get to ride him,” Hooker explained.

The Adult Amateur 36-50 Hunters saw a large group of twenty-one entries this week. The winning pair of Corsair and Hooker secured the championship over all the other entries with two wins, a second, and two sixth place ribbons in the division.

Hooker explained her plans for the remaining weeks of the winter season, “The rest of circuit, my plan is just to keep showing him. He is for sale, so if somebody purchases him that will be bitter sweet.” She went on to add with a smile, “I’m kind of a fair weather amateur. When we have the time, it’s nice, and I’m in the mood, we show. It’s fun and very casual.”

The reserve championship this week was awarded to French Kiss, a seven-year-old Westphalian gelding owned and shown by Tina Furey, from New Canaan, Connecticut. The duo was fifth in today’s under saddle, won one over fences class, and placed third in two more of the division’s classes.

The 2011 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival has 12 weeks of top competition running from January 12 through April 3. WEF is run by Equestrian Sport Productions, LLC, and Wellington Equestrian Partners and held at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center. All 12 shows are "AA" rated and Jumper Rated 6, and more than $6 million in prize money will be awarded.
