Judy Garofalo Torres and Jolly Mome Enjoy Victory in Wellington

WELLINGTON, FL, March 19 -

Judy Garofalo Torres of Dover Plains, NY, was fast and clear to win the $8,000 1.45m competition to open week 10, the CSI2* Suncast Corporation, presented by Equestrian Club by Tavern on the Green, of the CN Winter Equestrian Festival, presented by Zimmerman Advertising, at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center.

Richard Jeffery of Great Britain set the winding course in the DeNemethy Arena as, for week 10 of the CN Winter Equestrian Festival, competitors in the CDI dressage show are enjoying use of the International Arena. Only three riders produced clear rounds with the fastest coming from Garofalo Torres and a new mount, Jolly Mome.

Garofalo Torres was the first rider to post a clear round in a time of 70.24 seconds and none who followed could even come close to catching her time. Second place finisher Robert Kraut clocked in at 76.73 seconds riding Accordian while Michael Walton and Fantastiek placed third in 76.85 seconds.

Jolly Mome is a 10-year-old Belgian-bred mare sired by Chin Chin that Garofalo Torres has been riding for the past three months. Owner Joan Polimeni bought the horse for her in Belgium.

“I am excited to have a fantastic new owner, and I am excited to ride something else since Oliver is 18 now,” said Garofalo Torres in reference to her veteran grand prix mount. “Jolly Mome is small, fast, and careful. I think she can jump big jumps.”

Garofalo Torres will compete again on Thursday in the $25,000 WEF Challenge Cup Round IX and was using Wednesday’s $8,000 1.45m competition to prepare.

“It was a nice course, a nice speed round,” noted the 28-year-old. “I am going to do the WEF class tomorrow, so I wanted to carry some pace.”

Week 10 of the 2008 CN Winter Equestrian Festival, presented by Zimmerman Advertising, the CSI2* Suncast Corporation, presented by Equestrian Club by Tavern on the Green will feature Thursday’s $25,000 WEF Challenge Cup Round IX as well as Sunday’s $75,000 Suncast Grand Prix CSI2*.
